DIdYouKnowThe Pump House Ministries partners with about 40 OTHER ministries, missions, and/or churches across Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois helping sustain their operations while sustaining their own. Through our Textiles business/ Fabric of Life ministry the Pump House supports its own ministries by operating a small business of selling and shipping clothing, accessories, and fabric goods. In return for collecting clothing and wearable items, the Pump House pays other small area ministries and churches to do their part.

People Helping People.

Pump House Ministries, founded in 2003, has always felt its responsibility is to show God’s love in practical ways and to meet people and projects at their point of need. Because of this philosophy, the Ministries have found themselves in and out of projects depending on what the need is throughout the last 15 years. Some of our first projects were feeding people who couldn’t afford elaborate holiday meals or were alone and searching for a little community on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Our small efforts eventually evolved into a ministry that is constantly finding new opportunities to serve.

Here’s a short list of a few projects Pump House Ministries has spearheaded or collaborated with:

  • Served the children of Ashland by hosting a “Summer of Fun” vacation bible school-style summer camp, the “Alternative”- a family-oriented evening of fun, games, music, and treats as an alternative to trick or treating, Spirit Driven Soccer, provided space for High Kicks Karate school, and housed the Ashland City Schools ACDC program.
  • Served the community through the Workforce Reentry Program, providing jobs and training over a period of years.
  • Provided space and a receptionist for the Ashland Christian Health Clinic, a volunteer-run medical clinic for uninsured adults. (The clinic has since outgrown our space and moved to a new location.)
  • Utilized warehouse space to assist numerous small businesses get a start by providing rent-free space until they became profitable and could move to more permanent locations.
  • Provide relief efforts from national scale hurricanes to local ice storms and power outages, etc.
  • Opened the Homestead, a men’s homeless shelter, 2005-2015, providing over 7,000 bed nights to men in need. These men were given 3 meals per day, a bed, and either worked outside of the property or on the property as part of their rehabilitation, training, and basic life skills on collaboration and compassion.
  • The Pump House Food Pantry provided 450 people per month a week’s worth of groceries through a client’s choice distribution program. Food was purchased by Pump House and supplied through The Cleveland Food Bank.
  • Thrift Stores- Provided gently used clothing, household goods, and furniture at reasonable prices to the community while providing job training through the county’s WIA program, opportunities for community service, and paid employment for a staff. The thrift stores also provide a hub for community and friendship.
  • Textiles- Our main source of income for our self-sustaining ministries is our Textiles operation. We collect, package, and ship used clothing. Partnering with over 40 other ministries like us we generate the monies to support our staff and projects along with outreach to our partners.
  • On-Line Book Sales- Over 20,000 donated books are listed online through Amazon. This program also gave an opportunity to teach computer training skills for WIA participants and our Homestead shelter residents.
  • The Pump House Grille restaurant is another in-house small business where we combined both a service to the community and job/skills training to those who entered our program.
  • A USDA grant gave us the opportunity to offer GED classes and adult job training to our local vocational school.
  • Morning Joy is a future vision providing transitional housing for adult women coming from local shelters, broken and/or abusive homes, and other difficult situations. MJ Creations is a sewing ministry creating items such as pillows, purses, scarves, and other sewing projects for sale to support and raise funds directly for Morning Joy.

Pump House Ministries Internationally

  • H2Ope is a program developed to effectively deliver clean, safe drinking water to villagers in one of the world’s worst areas for contaminated water in Kenya. A small charcoal-based water filter can purify enough water for up to 40 people per year. To date we have sent over 200 filters which supply clean water to 5,000 villagers.
  • EGGS Initiative (Empowering Grandmothers while Generating Support) has provided a means of income through a chicken farming/egg collecting micro-enterprise for over 100 grandmothers who are feeding over 300 orphans.
  • SIFA Community Churches are provided financial and spiritual backing from Pump House to start and maintain local village churches in Mangu, JuJa Farm, and Thika. The leaders of the churches are locally trained pastors who are in touch with the day-to-day physical and spiritual needs of its members.
  • Potters Academy is a local school established for the education of village children. The Academy feeds over 100 children and staff per day. Their school uniforms are made by a local sewing enterprise operated by the village women.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Mark 10:45
