Volunteer Opportunities
Welcome Ministry
Volunteer Description
If you’re an outdoor person you could spend time in our parking lot opening doors for people. You could greet people with an “I’m glad to see you” or “I’m glad you came to Pump House today” message. You could open doors for people. You could help them carry things into or from the building. You could send people off as they leave with an “I’m glad you came to Pump House” or a “God bless you” message. You might keep an umbrella in your hand to hold it for people on rainy days so they don’t get wet. If people ask you why you’re being nice you could tell them that you like to “show God’s love in practical ways.” You will also encounter people who are just walking by who need to know that someone cares about them and that God loves them. Your warmth and friendliness can make a difference in people’s lives. First impressions go a long way. You could help give people a positive impression of Pump House before they even enter a building.
If you’re an indoor, people person, you could open doors for people as they are entering our main building. You could greet people with “Welcome to Pump House Ministries; it’s good to have you join us today.” Or you may find a spot to sit down in our lobby and strike up a conversation with someone who is here waiting to talk with someone on our staff. You’ll be surprised how people respond to people who listen and show care. You might introduce yourself and ask people what brought them to The Pump House. You might hear a short response or people might tell you pieces of their life story. You may have opportunities to tell people about some of the ministries we have here at Pump House. You will want to be careful that you do not offer people false hope or money. Your willingness to listen and be fully present is a great gift to them. You may have an opportunity to encourage people. You may have an opportunity to say a short prayer after they have shared a story or a need with you.Ministry Match
These ministry opportunities are best suited for people with gifts of hospitality. If you’re an extravert and just love being around people, you will have opportunities to use your people skills to connect with people.
